Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Open Adoption

I am 4 1/2 weeks pregnant. I am no longer with the father; I left him due to emotional/verbal abuse. I do not want to abort the pregnancy, but I also do not want the father to have anything to do with the child in fear of its safety. If I choose an open adoption, would he have any rights? I would give birth and immediately the child would go to the adoptive parents I choose. Would I legally have to tell him that is what I plan to do with the baby?

Re: Open Adoption

Your best bet is to get him to release his rights to the child. He would most likely want to do that rather than have to pay child support.

The courts will try to do what is in the best interest of the child and the attorney handling the adoption will try to make sure the husband's rights are terminated.

If you would like to discuss the matter more fully, please feel free to call me.
