Parent Education Program

My divorce is initiated in Massachusetts by my spouse, but I live in Florida. I would like to know if I can get my Parent Education class done in Florida or do I have to find an agency in Massachusetts?

I would assume that you have an attorney. If not, you should consider hiring one, unless you believe that you can truly and completely represent your interests, and any children's interests, if you have any, from Florida.

Your issue is governed by Probate 7 Family Court Standing Order #1-03. It says you have to attend an "approved program." That means, to me, one approved by Mass. Courts, and would not include Florida. However, the Judge can waive that requirement where justice requires. Someone in Mass. will have to present that motion to a judge and have it approved. If you talk to an assistant register at the court, they could possibly help you. It seems to me justice might require it if you were taking a similar course in Florida.

So - it's not automatic, but my opinion is, you can probably do what you intend by applying to the Court. Do call them.
