can i ask the court to give up my parental rights to achild i never knew existed?

You can give up your visitation and custody rights, but this will not result in reducing or terminating your obligation to support.

While you may be able to give up your custody and visitation rights, you can not avoid your support obligations if you have been adjudicated the child's father. If you have not been so adjudicated, retain an attorney to discuss filing a paternity action to determine whether you are, in fact, the child's father. Good Luck!
