pension sharing
do you need a lawyer to fill out the form that divides my pension so my spouse will get half?

It is a bit of a complicated matter. These court orders, known as QDROs (qualified domestic relations orders) must be in a form satisfactory to both the plan administrator and the court. They take some expertise. I am surprised that there is a "form." If your company has issued a simplified form for doing this, the legal fees likely will not be much. Handling this yourself though is asking for trouble.
