Are attorneys required to do pro bono at least once a year and how do you find one?

No there is no requirement for attorneys to do pro bono work. Many do however because they feel it is the right thing to do. If you call the Massachusetts Bar Association or the Boston Bar Association, you can ask to speak with their Lawyer Referral Service and there, they will have a list of attorneys that might take on pro bono work.

Pro bono publico means "for the public good" and refers, in the legal profession, to taking cases without compensation because there is a perceived public good that will be served by doing so. There is no requirement that attorneys work for free, however, many bar associations recognize members who do. throughout the state there are legal service organizations who provide reduced or no cost representation to indigent or low income clients.
