Re: probate

you are supposed to Probate the Will and get the necessary orders to transfer property. If you parents had no property then there is very little point.

However, if they had personal effects, a home, et cetera, you may need to probte the Will or at least open a small estate to complete the process. Without knowing what if anything they held as property, it is difficult to advise you.

Re: probate

If there is property to change hands, the estate must be properly settled through court. If you know there is a will, and wish to settle the estate, you must file it through probate.

Re: probate

First of all, I am very sorry for the loss of your parent or parents. These financial and probate-related matters can almost always wait a week or two until after you have said goodbye to your loved ones.

If a parent left a will, and passed away leaving an estate worth $15,000 or more (not counting any automobiles), the will must be probated.

I am located in Quincy, MA, and charge very reasonable rates to help executors/administrators carry out their duties before the Probate Court.

Please give me a call if you would like to talk or meet for a consultation.
