Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

My question is: If I'm going to relinquish my father rights to a child that I want nothing to do with ,due to a one night stand that lead me in blocking out due to over drinking, Can I fight on paying child support on that child?

It's a losing battle unless you have a very good financial excuse not to pay child support. The state of MA has a formula to calculate the amount of child support that you are required to pay every week. Even if your income is 0, you would still be obligated to pay at least $80.00 a month in support.

To calculate how much you will owe, use the Child Support Guidelines Worksheet at

When you say you are terminating parental rights, are you suggesting that there is another adult that wishes to adopt your child together with the child's mother? As attorney Oreste suggested, your child support obligations are based on the child support guidelines at the link he provided. I would suggest you contact an attorney ASAP. Relinquishing your parental rights does not relieve you of any obligation to pay child support.

Under some circumstances, it may be possible to enter into an agreement reliquishing parental rights which can result in a termination of the obligation to pay child support. However, you need legal counsel and I would not agree to termination of your parental rights without first obtaining legal advice from an attorney.
