With regards to your daughter, your mother would petition the courts for guardianship of your daughter with your consent (and if the father's consent). You and your son's father could enter into an agreement whereby you would be giving him the physical custody of your son while you were away in the marines and have it entered in as a court order/judgment.
The process is not very difficult and should be able to be completed in one court date. If you are interested in retaining an attorney to draft the paperwork our legal fees are on a sliding scale based on your income. Thank you,
If you are already in the US Marines you are eligible on your request for legal Assistance from the Judge Advocate General Officer in your chain of command.
Or ask your recruiter if an when you become eligible for their service.
Ultimately, you will need to petition the Probate and Family Court to grant Guardianship to your Mother and your son's father of your daughter and your son respectively. The cost should be around $300 to $500 if the father of the children assents to this. Good Luck!
