Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts
I have been scammed by a Philippino national who has lied to me (to an extent to create a different persona) to get me to marry her. She pretended to be someone else (different age, background, name, school, growing up, etc.) trying to impress me by buying hotel rooms with room service etc. When I discovered her lies, she tried to cover with the new ones. After a while it became clear that she is a pathological liar and she just wanted me to marry her, I ended the relationship. She then asked me to pay her her expenses during the relationship, retroactively. When I refused, she told me that she is a "black widow" and she will destroy me if I ever ended up on her bad side. I haven't talked to her for almost a month and now I hear that the police is knocking at my door (I wasn't there to receive whatever it is they were serving). I believe she filed a restraining order alleging domestic violence, as she threatened me once.
-She lives in Rhode Island and I live in Massachusetts (55 miles apart. Not only I have no reason to go there for business purposes, I don't even have a friend to visit there.)
-Dating relationship was only for 5-6 months and I have seen her only twice since December, definitely not after Feb 14ish.
-She had filed a restraining order to her previous boyfriend as well (7 months ago. Their relationship lasted 4 years). She might be doing this to all of her past-bf. [I had also discovered she was married for 7 years before and got serious sum of settlement from her marriage.]
-She stole my driver license (and possibly other things like credit cards) and posted it online, telling me she has more to do with the information. I put credit freze to all of my accounts.
-She knows I am applying for government jobs at the moment and my belief is that she is doing this on purpose to damage my reputation, name, and record (or to make sure I spend the money she thinks I owe her to the lawyers). She also knows I applied to graduate public policy schools and that it would affect me adversely.
Questions:
-I have been unemployed for a while, with very limited resources, can I get a pro-bono help from a legal counsel?
-If I make myself unavailable to be served, would this default in a summary judgement against me? (As in, they would make it permanent - believing her story)
-I hear that judges usually side with females, as a caution, and put these restraining orders on males. What steps can I take to dismiss these charges?
Please help me. Please.
