Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

I am the secondary caregiver of my 11 year old son. His mother and I share joint custody of him. She has had him (a reasonably well adjusted kid that just doesn't want to go to school because of a bullying problem) admitted to an inpatient psychiatric facility for observation without my knowledge or consent.

My questions are 1. Is she legally allowed to do this without my consent? and 2. How do I ensure that major decisions such as this aren't done without both of our consent if it is?

Thanks in advance for your help.
