my sister recently went to jail and wants me to take care of her kids now i live in ma they live in ny to enroll them in school in mass do i need a legal document saying they are temporarily in my custody orcan they get a noterized letter saying so

You may need more than a notarized letter. You may need a guardianship over the children. I recomend a guardianship anyway. This will give you the right to make decisions over medical care as well as education.
