Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Sole Custody

I want to file for sole custody of my 16 year old son. His father's name is on the birth certificate, but we were never married. He has NEVER paidchild support and has rarely spent time with his son in all these years. Do I need a lawyer? Is it difficult to win under these conditions? How do I proceed?

Re: Sole Custody

You must file a paternity action in the probate and family court in the county in which you and your child reside and request child support and a custody and visitation order. It would be best to have an attorney assist you with this. Good Luck!
