Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

My son's father recently came back into his life and says he wants to help more by giving me child support. He asked me how much I would like because he doesnt want to bring it in the courts eyes because we argued a lot in the past about stuff like that. How much should I ask him to give if he hasnt done anything for his son up until now.

You should sit down with an attorney and run the Massachusetts child support guidelines worksheet to see what an appropriate level of support might look like. You may want to include some back payments. If the parties agree, my advice would be to file a friendly and joint complaint to establish support. That way - going forward - you will have some protection.
