Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

ss disability and alimony

both my ex and i are on ss disability. he has alimony obligations but is always late and has been in contempt and incarcerated a few times for it. I want to have his social security disability check garnished. If I collect alimony through his ss disability check, will it effect MY ss disability check amount????? Also if alimony is taxable income, but ss dis income is not, how would the taxes be handled?? Ex would not be able to claim on taxes?? I would not have to report it as taxable income??? I am beyond confused and have gotten no straight answers from soc sec office, or online alimony website. I truly appreciate any help you can give.

Re: ss disability and alimony

You should consult a tax expert on the effect of collecting alimony from a disability check. This is an unusual arrangement, and may not follow usual rules.
