Can I serve a subpeona without an attorney and does the court case need to be open at this time to serve?

Re: Subpeona

A subpoena can be issued by any notary public or justice of the peace. It can be served by any process server. However, there MUST be an underlying action -- an open case in the court system -- and a proceeding to which the witness will be required to report.
