Subpoena

Am i responsible for missing a court appearance if i was not officially notified?

It depends. YOu have not described the proceedings, and what you were summonsed for, and in what court.

If you are saying that the person who summonsed you is taking action against you, then you have to provide more facts.

As a general rule, not showing up for an event for which you were summonsed is a serious matter.

I don't know what you mean by "officially notified." If you received a subpoena, then you were officially notified. If it was accidentlly served at your neighbor's house, and that neighbor brought it to you, you had actual notice, and you had better show up. If you never got anything prior to the hearing and just learned about the subpoena afterward, you had better notify the court and find out from the person who subpoenaed you what is going on. You can't let this ride. You need to be pro-active, before someone asks the court for sanctions against you.
