Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts
Time limit on recovering past due support/alimony
I am owed child support arrearage, it was being paid on and off by my ex until I had a wage assignment and help from the DoR. DoR does not help in past due amounts, only from the date you file and forward, that has been paid. I am also entitled to alimony. Alimony has not been paid in almost 2 years. There is no communication between my ex and I. Is there a time limit on how long I can recoup the past due money? There are also other points in the divorce agreement that have not been met, such as repayment for airfare (kids in CA, dad in MA), health bills, education, proof of life insurance. Is this something I can do on my own from California without a lawyer? Thanks for your advice.

NOW, IN RESPONSE TO YOUR INQUIRY --
Contact the Department of Child Support Services (formerly the DA) in the county where you live for specific advice and possible representation. They deal with current child support, arrearage, healthcare insurance for the kids, unreimbursed medical expenses, and other child support add-ons. You can also contact the Family Law Facilitator in your county for assistance on the unpaid spousal support. Unlike most other judgments, California judgments re child support do not need to be renewed every ten years. They are good forever.
Thanks for sharing your interesting inquiry with us on LawGuru, and good luck with your case.
