Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

I turn 16 next week. I am currently working to get my GED, and go to the local community college. I am considering emancipation as a last resort, but have no motivation towards that option, as my mother would be able to pay for my expenses outside the home. As a minor, what are the limitations on what I can do (contracts, renting, college, etc.)? What is legal/illegal for me to do at this age(16)?

As a 16 year old you cannot sign contracts, you can apply for college and seek a college loan.

In order to be emancipated you have to demonstrate you have the ability to support yourself and have the judgment and maturity to do so. Likewise, if you are emancipated, you may not be eligible to be covered under your mother's medical insurance.

If you are not employed and seek to rent an apartment, your mother will have to co-sign the lease anyway, so there is no upside to seeking emancipation given your current situation.
