I currently unemployed and I filed for divorce about a month ago. I don't have the funds to hire an attorney. My husband hired an attorney and they want to counter file? What does that do? I

You should retain counsel.
Under some circumstances, you may be able to request that your spouse pay for your attorney. Depending upon what is at stake here, it may really make sense to charge or borrow the funds necessary to hire a lawyer. It is possible that counsel for the parties can help resolve disagreements by the parties or propose solutions that will save the parties' time and money.
