Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Unusual Situation with Child Support

My husband has 2 teens with his first wife. They have joint legal custody, but she has physical custody. She is currently separated from her second husband, the kids stepfather. My husband's daughter, age 18, moved in with us about 6 weeks ago. His on, age 16 has primarily been living with his stepfather, instead of his mother, due to various circumstances including that his mother is never home, not taking care of the kids (i.e. not taking them to dr., not buying clothes when needed, they cook for themselves or eat out, no help with school), not providing him with heat in his bedroom, etc. etc.

The lawyers we keep talking to tell us there is not much we can do. We may be able to reduce child support due to the fact that the 18 year old is with us now, but not by much. And unless the 16 year old moves in with us, there is nothing we can do about his situation. We find this very frustrating, as it is quite clear that the mother is not supporting either of the children financially with the support money that my husband sends. Yes, the home is there, but neither child is actively living there.

We are very interested in finding advice that can HELP us legally navigate this situation. Thank you.
