Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts
I am here on my visa which is sure to expire this year. I met a great man here that wants to marry me but I have been trying to get my divorce finalized for over a year. I was married in palestine and I have very little rights or options when our comes to dealing with lawyers over there. is there anything else I can do to finally get divorced so I can be happy here with him?

You can get divorced in Massachusetts. It may take over a year but you can get divorced in this state. If you have lived in Massachusetts for over a year, you can file the divorce. You then have to serve your spouse and wait 20 days to see if an answer is filed. If no answer is filed, you can request a trial date. You will probably receive a pre-trial date. If your spouse does not appear at the court date, the Judge will probably grant a divorce at that hearing. The divorce will be final 3 months after that hearing.
In order to obtain a divorce here in Massachusetts you would just need to meet the court's one year residency requirement before filing. If you or your spouse has lived here for a year, you should be able to file for divorce here. Our office has handled international divorce disputes before, and would be more than happy to assist you.
