Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts
Wedding, job, personal safety lost
Last year, 6 months before my wedding to my fiance of 5 years, a woman claimed she had had an affair with him and became pregnant with his child. She claimed she had an abortion because she was married. She sent letters describing the affair. Her friends sent me threats. It became evident that my fiance had in fact had some sort of relationship with her -phone records proved they had spoken for a duration of 7 months...to which he admitted. He denied ever being intimate with her. Ultimately, I did not know who to believe. Due to the situation, our wedding was cancelled and I became so depressed that I almost lost my job because I could not function properly. I lost over $15,000 that both my parents and I had put down on the wedding. I alsohad to file a police report against the woman because she began harassing me via phone, having me followed by someone, and my car just ''happened'' to get keyed at the time of the situation. I have been constantly scared for my saftey, and have had to move into a new apartment because of it. Just recently, it became evident that the woman has lied to me. Is there any way to sue her for damaging my life, the loss of the wedding, loss of security, and mental anguish? She could definitely afford it.

Depending on the facts, I believe you have a cause of action. Of course, the judge or jury would decide on the value of the case. Also, it would be helpful to be able to prove she intentionally lied to you. Do you have proof of this?
