Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

wishing to adopt step children

My two step children imigrated here to US in 1995 to live with their biological father and myself. I just got the Bio mother who lives in Jamaica to agree to allow me to adopt the children. I went to the court and they gave me Petition for Adoption forms and surrender forms. They said this was all i needed, to send them to Jamaica and have her sign in front of a notary and then send them back for our signatures. Is this the only thing we need to do? thank you

If you want to do it yourself, then go to a law library and get a Mass a book related to adoption.

Otherwise, you should contact an attorney.

Re: wishing to adopt step children

If you want to do this yourself, you should go Mass Trial Law Libraries and read-up on Adoption and procedures (there is an online version). You should get a book that shows you how to do it for reference.

If you need or want help, you should contact an attorney for assistance.
