Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Massachusetts

I beat up a scumbag who robbed me and now I have felony convictions on my record but I was only put on probation for five years. I want to own a gun for hunting and target shooting, how can I do that legally. I was looking it up online and most laws say that felons who were incarcerated for 2 or more years cant own firearms. I never went to prison. So my question is can I own a gun in mass. What about the other states in new england (I would consider moving)? Is black powder ok? l
