Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Massachusetts

We took our dogs to a rabies clinic when someone came within 2 feet of us with their little dog. We have 3 German Shepherds. One of our dogs lunged at the lady's dog who happened to be a vet. The dog's injuries were so severe she put her dog to sleep. we are paying her vet bills and are scheduled for a hearing with our selectman ,dog officer and this woman. She called the local newspaper and had a big witeup put in the paper about this . Is this slander to us?
