Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Massachusetts

compensatory time

if i have accumalated lets say 3000 hrs. of comp. time in the last 10 or 15 years and i retire can my imployer refuse to pay me this time?even if i have a letter of memorandum and understanding saying that i can carry this time over or with no stipulation to the contrary? thanks a little confused.
