engagement ring,taken by boyfriend

live in massachusetts,my boy friend said many times,he would not take ring even if we break up.He stole the ring.and the police are refuseing a police report.

Reading your mind, I assume that your boyfriend took the engagement ring he gave you. He did so without your permission.

When last I researched this -- twelve or thirteen years ago -- the law of engagement rings was as follows: If a gift SOLELY for engagement, without any other holiday or occasion in mind, the ring is a conditional gift. It is yours only so long as you are engaged, and fiancee can require its return if the engagement ends.

If given for a "dual occasion" (e.g., Christmas and engagement, the additional occasion makes the ring a gift outright.

If your case is the second type, you may want to have someone update my research and consider whether you have a case.
