Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Massachusetts

financial abuser

My boyfriend has a drug addication and borrowed my life savings over the past year and a half. He also had me evicted from my apartment, sold my car withiut my permission, and cashed an insurance check made out to me while I have been away in a safe place for 6 months waiting for him to get treatment. Is there any legal recourse for me, possibly a notorized statement of what he owes me or do I have to press charges for the car and check? If I do, I'm afraid I'll never see my life savings again. He claims he will do the right thing and get help and pay me back and hopes to spend his life with me. I love him and want it to work out but my ways of helping the situation have not helped.

Re: financial abuser

There may be ways of getting both the car and the check funds returned without filing a police report but it would be much easier if a criminal prosecution was initiated. Any chance of getting back cash he spent are very small unless you get them back directly from him. Again, no chance of that without criminal prosecution.

I would not think twice about going after him. He can talk "love" but he obviously does not know what that means. He will tell you whatever you want to hear until your out of money.

Call me if I can be of any assistance.
