Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Massachusetts

I recently received a child support request for a child that is 13 that I knew nothing about. I do not believe the child is mine as the time frame does not add up. I got this letter two weeks ago and haven't received anything about a court date or paternity test. I called DOR and they said it could take 6 to 8 months? I also called my lawyer and she acted like I shouldn't even worry about it as nothing may come it? I am so confused. The women who filed has already tried this with at least two other men and the child in question has a different last name than her. How long do I have to wait and is there anyway to speed up the process. I am married with three children and one on the way and this is causing alot of stress. I can't imagine waiting months, years to find out. I tried to contact the women in question but she ignored my messages.

I'm not sure why your attorney told you not to worry about it. There may be a good reason not to be alarmed. If you do not trust your attorney, you may want to find a new one. It may be a demand from the mother, and not a legal document that requires a response. If you are unsure, you should schedule an appointment with an attorney who practices in this area. You can resolve this issue by having a paternity test done.
