2006 Diversity Green Card Lottery

Each year the Department of State operates a program that is known as the diversity immigrant lottery program. It currently sets aside 50,000 immigrant visas annually for certain prospective immigrants from countries that are designated as having a lower rate of immigration to the U.S.

In order to obtain one of the immigrant visas, eligible entrants may enter into a "lottery" through submission to the Department of State website. Successful entrants would obtain the right to live and work in the U.S.

The current DV-2006 green card lottery began on November 5, 2004 and will extend until January 7, 2005.
