Legal Question in Immigration Law in Massachusetts
F2 visa applicable for parents of minors?
I am a 13-year-old college student, and the university asks my mother to accompany me as a legal guardian. She came here on a B2 visa and now she wants to change into a F2 visa, is that possible? I've heard that only children and spouses of F1 visa holders can apply as dependents, does mom count as a dependent in this case?
Thanks,
Cathy

Cathy,
Unfortunately, only spouses and minor children of F-1 holder may obtain F-2 visa. Your mother is not a dependent. She may, however, apply for an extension of her B2 visa. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me anytime at [email protected]. Good luck in your studies!
