Legal Question in Immigration Law in Massachusetts

Is Joint Income Acceptable for Sponsoring Spouse?

My wife had filed I-130, petition for alien relative and I filed I-485, petition for adjustment of status based on our marriage. My wife didn't have enough income to cover 125% of federal poverty line which wouldn't be enough to sponsor for immigration purpose. I had been living in US for over 6 years and I had filed tax every year. I had my income above federal poverty line since year 2000. So, as somebody suggested, I showed my income and filed the application in last year on June. We might be called for interview sometimes this year and they may ask us to show income again. The problem is I spent my time in school this year and survived on very low income (little more than $5200). So, my income is not enough to cover federal poverty line this year. Neither is my wife's (little more than $12000). However, if we can combine our income it is just enough to be above poverty line. Will it be possible for us to show our joint income for I-864, affidavit for sponsor or must I find somebody else to sponsor me?

I would appreciate your suggestion.

Re: Is Joint Income Acceptable for Sponsoring Spouse?

Usually you can combine your income together to satisfy the minimum income requirement. If you have an employer's letter stating your current job and annual salary, that will help.
