Legal Question in Immigration Law in Massachusetts
unemployed h-1 b visa holder
I came to the US (MA) in March 2003 on an H1-B visa. Since then I donot have a job because of the recession.I needed to know: 1. Am a illegally staying in the US? 2. Do I have to search for another employer who can give me employment? if yes , during the paper work, do i have to leave the coountry? 3. Do I have to pay taxes, even though I am not geting a salary? 4. How long can I saty in the US without a job? 5. I have heard , that if i overstay after my visa expires but lesser than 180 day peroid, i will have no prblems. does this mean i can stay in the US without a job but with a valid H-1 visa?
5. Please advice and let me know if i require legal consultation.
thanks

Sooner you find an employer to petition for you..it would be better. Please e-mail me with your resume. I have some potential employers.
Re: unemployed h-1 b visa holder
You are currently not complying with the terms of your H-1B, so you are technically out of status. If you can find another job soon, you can apply from inside or outside the U.S. The longer it takes you, the more problems you will have if you remain.
