Legal Question in Immigration Law in Massachusetts

Work authorizations

My wife and I have a pending I485 case in Boston, MA. The labor (I 140) is approved 2 years ago. We have submitted all our paper for I485 to a Vermont center early may, 2004. Vermont center transferred our I485 case to the local Boston INS office on September 2004 so interview can be conducted and the case to be decided by the Boston INS office. We have not heard from Boston office about our I485 case so far.

Our EAD will expire 02/06/2005. The Vermont INS has received our EAD renewal on November 18, 2004 and transferred the case to the local INS Boston office on 12/07/2004. We have not heard from the Boston office yet. My question are: If we don't get the EAD by 02/06/2005, what are our options? Do we have to leave the country since we got the EAD through a labor process? Can we stay in the country with out working for our employers until we get the EAD? If we stop working until we get the new EAD, would that affect our I485 process? Can our lawyer do any thing else to expedite the

renewal process?

Re: Work authorizations

Without a valid EAD, you cannot work in the US. But that does not affect I-485 process.
