Legal Question in Insurance Law in Massachusetts
Insurance company won't pay
Massachusetts Hanover ins co.
3 amplifiers and kicker box were stolen from my car. Police report done and ins claims adjuster verified loss. I can't find the original receipt. Paid cash for the purchase. I am a regular customer of the store and the owner gave me a store form with the word ''estimate'' on top of the actual equipment bought and installed with the prices. He couldn't give me a copy of the original receipt as his computer software was changed, or something like that.
Ins co denied the claim due to lack of original receipt. I spoke to them again, telling them to call the store owner who would personally verify the purchase. I'm still waiting to hear from the ins co, but as of 2 weeks they haven't called the store owner.
When I speak to them again, if they still deny the claim....what can I do? Any advice on how to confront them? Isn't a verbal confirmation along with a store listing of items and prices equivalent enough to the original receipt that they are requesting?

Re: Insurance company won't pay
It sounds like you have a classic 93A (consumer protection) claim against the insurance company; they have an obligation to settle the claim in good faith, which means relying on the best estimates when it comes to the value of the items stolen. If my house burned down tomorrow, I could not produce original receips for everything in it.
