Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Massachusetts

Publishing research acquired from websites, phone calls and emails

I'm putting together a book about a niche college degree (e.g. Dentistry) and the schools that offer a program in that niche. It is an admissions guide for students interested in the field. In the book I am providing information on the program at each school, such as application deadlines, prerequisite classes and summary statistics of the school (student:faculty ratio, avg financial aid offering, etc). Much of the research I am gathering to complete this project is from the school's website, but some is from phone calls or emails from employees at the school.

As I'm not copying word-for-word from the school websites (only gathering statistics and other information that they list), if I cite the source of my information, am I allowed to publish this data in my own book? And secondly, since some of the information is coming from phone calls and emails, do I need to get approval from the people I'm speaking to (or from the university in general) in order to include that information in my book?

Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

Re: Publishing research acquired from websites, phone calls and emails

One cannot protect facts with copyright law, so I see no issues raised by your research. No approval needed for repeating information gleaned from employees of the institutions. Best wishes,
