Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

age, sex discrimination. is it worth the fight

I have been with my company for 24 years.

Six months ago it sold. The new owners laid off several people, mostly woman.

I am the last one. The buzz is I'm next.

5 weeks ago a 32 year old man was hired to ''support'' my position. Several days ago he hired is twin brother (no experience) to ''help'' me. I heard I was going to be laid off or offered another (very unsuitable) position. I think it's because I'm a woman that the new owners are letting me go. I'm also 44

I'm not sure what to do if offered a new position. I think it's just their way of leading me toward a voluntary lay off.

I have had no complaints about my work. I was told I was doing a great job and even got a raise. Still, I hear they don't want me with the company and always planned on letting me go. I'm very upset and would like to know if it is worth going after for age/sex discrimination in the event I am let go for no apparent reason.

The rumor mill is not always correct. YOu will need direct evidence of discrimination. You may make a claim for sex and age discrimination by filing with the MAss. Commission Against Discrimination within 300 days of your termination or resignation.
