Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

Exempt status

Exempt Status

I am an Exempt status employee working in a hospital.

My supervisor requires that I use my Paid time off(PTO) (accrued combined sick vacation holiday leave) for any absense less than 8 hours even as little as one hour.

My supervisor requires that I take the entire day off (8 hours of PTO) for a medical appt.or test even if it will only require that I leave work one hour early or be off site for an hour.

Are these practices legal?

Re: Exempt status

Time off has to be taken from somewhere. However, if for medical care you can only be required to deduct for the hour under the Family Medical Leave Act. Speak to personnel office.
