Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

i was hired as a carpenter to in stall millwork. my first check was for my first 2 weeks. and then i am told that i will be receiving a 1099 because i will be a private contractor. i have never been in business for my self always a employee. i really need the work. and now i find there is no overtime pay yet overtime is required.

the standard in Massachusetts is that most people are treated as employees unless the state law provides that they can be treated as 1099. the AG enforces this law and you should call the AG to see if you can be treated as a 1099
