Job Offer
Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to look into my question. I have a friend, which I referred to my company. After several interviews, she received an offer letter. Was not too happy about her first offer and she asked for a little more money. The HR contact never called her back with a counter offer or a �..this is it or nothing. He just never called her back at all. This happened in the state of MA. She called the HR contact and he stated that she declined the offer and that was it. She was like no, I made a counter offer. The business group, who she was interviewing with, told the HR contact to not call her back and look for other candidates instead.
Isn�t it illegal to make and offer and never rescind it? They just never contacted her back and moved on. It has been over a week now, since this happened. I just don�t think it is fair nor good business practice. And, it makes me look bad since I referred her.

Actually, the company's response - at least legally - is right on the money. By making a counter-offer, your friend rejected the original offer and, from a legal standpoint, the original offer was dead.
Was it polite not to respond to your friend's calls and inquiries? No. But "impolite" and "illegal" are two very different animals.
