Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

law on coperations

I am an advocate who is trying to help a client obtain information that as an ex-employee she is entitled to. She has requested a letter that states the date she began employment and the date she ended employment. However, she was told by the dentist office that she can only obtain that from the coperate office and they are refusing to provide the information. What can she do and does she have a right to know the coperate office contact?

Re: law on coperations

The first thing she should do is get a complete copy of her personnel file. She is entitled to this by law, and there are penalties for employers who do not comply.

A few questions that might help: what is the address on her paychecks? on her pay stubs? does she have any sort of employee handbook? If she knows the name of the corporation, its address is a matter of public record and will be listed on the Secretary of State, Corporations Division, website.

Good luck!
