sexually explicit songs in the work place

Iam the only woman working at a maintenance facility do billing. My boss is a bully and choose sexually explicit songs on his music playlist that the whole dept can hear. What should I do to let him know this bothers me?

Under Massachusetts law, it is illegal to discriminate in the workplace based on a person's sex.

Sexual harassment which rises to the level of creating a sexually hostile, humiliating, or offensive workplace is discrimination, and your employer/boss can be held accountable.

There are certain time limits that may restrict your ability to bring a claim, so it is wise to speak with someone as soon as possible.

Furthermore, you really should avail yourself of whatever human resources or sexual harassment policy exists - sometimes a failure to reasonabely do so will bar a future claim.

Most important, start keeping a journal immediately. Make a note of what people have said and how they made you feel, people who may be able to act as witnesses, whether you were ever told about a sexual harassment policy, whether you ever used it and what happened. Keep a record of everything, including song titles or album covers.

Music of this nature can be considered as in violation of the discrimination laws by creating a hostile work environment. I suggest you contact your HR department if the company has one or your union rep if you are in a union. Other than this I suggest you talk to counsel to protect your rights when he is directly approached by your representative.
