Submission of Resignation
Today I have submitted my resignation to my supervisor of the agency I am currently employed at. I wrote in the resignation letter that my last day of employment will be September 1, 2006. She responded by telling me that the agency wants me to leave on August 18, 2006. Can she legally do that? I

If you don't have a collective bargaining agreement or other contract that requires they keep you until 9/1 (or some other time period), and your term isn't shortened because they are discriminating against you by cutting your time short, then the short answer is "Yes." MA is an at-will employment state, which means basically that employees can quit without notice, and employers can terminate without notice - for just about any reason or no reason at all.
