Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

Termination due to Pregnancy

I was hired as a secretary in a medical office of 5 personel and have since become the doctor and his wife's daycare provider as well. It was not ever a part of what i was hiered for but out of generousity i have been helping them...they now look at me as more a child provider than a office personal although they pay me as office personel. Can they fire me because I am pregnant and no longer will be performing there child care duties? Do they have that legal right if i was not hired as their nanny?

You cannot be fired because you are pregnant. However, at-will employees can be fired at any time, for any reason, or no reason at all provided that it is not based on discriminatory reasons, or would otherwise violate a public policy (such as in retaliation for your doing something that you have a legal right to do, or refraining from doing something you have a legal obligation not to do).
