Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts
I was told by my boss that I should punch out before I take my uniform out. Everyday we have to get there 15 minutes early and change and wait until at least 3 minutes before work time(cannot punch in before that, system will not allow)but today I was told that we were having a meeting(15 minutes before work end)that was cancelled at the last second, so I was 15 minutes early, so I changed clothes and punched out, but my boss told me never to do that again, that I should only punch in wearing the required uniform and always punch out before changing back to my regular clothes. I don't think that's right, because the uniform is a requirement, not an option, and it robs me of at least 15 minutes every day(1 Hour 15 minutes every week, 4.4 hours every month, etc.) Is this legal and proper?

I would want to find out more about your case and do some in depth legal research before giving a definitive opinion. Some courts have ruled that donning and doffing a uniform is not compensable unless there is a requirement that the change take place on the premises. If you can change at home, it is likely that your employer is not required to pay you.
