Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts
unfair labor practice?
a collegue has been slandering my name to our nurse mgr. (they're close friends) and another nurse. i went to the assistant and director of nsg., emphasizing this was a serious issue to me. i perceived them to be dismissive, so i wrote a letter to this collegue and the nurse mgr., addressing my concerns. i was extremely upfront about her actions; there were no threats. this collegue called the director, very upset, stating she did not feel safe working with me. the director called me the night before i was scheduled to work (16 hrs) telling me to stay home so she could investigate. i went for a meeting today and was told that i was wrong/inappropriate in sending them letters to their personal residences; and that i was cut a shift since this nurse won't work with me. i was also told that the contents of my letter were not the issue. can my director cut my hours even though she confirmed there were no threats made? and she's not going to investigate my concerns of being slandered. and now my hours have been cut because this collegue will not sit down to discuss these issues. is any of this legal? i've worked there 6 yrs., full time.

Unless you are in a union or have a written employment contract, your employer controls your work life. You should go up the chain of command, e.g.human resources, open door policy, etc.
