Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

vacation pay

I recently gave notice and left the company I was working for. I asked for my vacation pay as I did not want to forfeit it. I was told that I did not have any vacation pay coming to me. My pay stub each week indicated under Available 16 hours of personal time and 30 hours of vacation time. I was told that I would have been allowed that if I had worked for the company for at least 6 months. I was actually transferred from one company to the other, for a total working period of 8 months. Do I have a right to press for the 30 hours of vacation time that is under the category Available on my paystub? How would I go about that? Thank you!

Re: vacation pay

When you leave a company, they must pay you all earned vacation pay. Whether or not your company owes you depends on a few things. Was the 30 hours earned? What is the company's policy for earned time? Have other transferred employees been allowed to take earned vacation before the 6 month time period?

You should request in writing that they pay you for those 30 hours (and keep a copy). If they refuse, the next step is to file a complaint with the Attorney General.
