Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts
Wages owed after termination
I was recently terminated from a non-profit organization. Upon returning all company property, i.e. cell phone, keys, etc and submitting my required paperwork my former supervisor stated that he will be withholding my final pay until about a month. My question is can he get away with this? I've had friends say to me that they are required to pay me within 24 hours of termination.

If your employer is withholding wages, and your employment contract does not permit this, then he or she is committing a criminal act and you should immediately contact the state Attorney General's Office; to file a complaint about labor law violations, call 617.727.3465.
