Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

I work for a Co. in MA. as a delivery driver,using my own vehicle,have taxes taken out each week. My engine just blew up & it will cost $8,000 to fix. I don't have the money so I won't be able to work anymore. My ? is, can I file for unemployment?? The Co. will deny the claim,saying that I quit,but if I don't have a vehicule to do the job,what am I supposed to do? If I don't quit,they will fire me for not showing up. need advise asap.

I'm not sure if I have an answer to your question, but I just want to clarify that you are being treated as a W-2 employee and not a 1099 independent contractor. If the latter, there may be a violation of the independent contractor laws in Massachusetts and you may have something to work with.
