Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts
I worked for a company for three weeks until I realized I could make a lot of more money working somewhere else. Therefore, I quit however I was owed two checks combining for $540. They took this money away from me claiming that because I didn't reach a certain number of sales commissions they can take the money back because it's some sort of advancement. I was told in the interview I would have a base pay of minimum wage for $300 or if I made over $300 in commissions I would get the money in commission, whichever came first. The fact that they took the money away from me has me distraught and worried as if I have been taken in some sort of pyramid scheme. What can I do legally? I don't think you can legally just take money back?

If you were owed $540.00 when you quit, that money should be paid out to you. There are strict penalties for employers who do not pay their employees on time. Unfortunately, it is impossible to know what you are owed without knowing more about your employment arrangement.
